| Wisp
Wisps come into existence when someone dies in pain and fear in the bogs. Being an insubstantial spirit, they roam the bogs and swamps, unable to leave them. Their touch drains the life force from all living creatures. They use their light to lure their victims deeper and deeper into the bog, making them believe that they are heading for the lights of a nearby village. If the lost wanderer finally reaches the Wisp, he is often surrounded by many of them. Wisps are attracted by the body heat of living creatures and so they keep touching their victims again and again. Such contacts are described as 'burning cold' and numbing. The light of Wisps is blinding and confusing if you look at it directly. They are fast and persistent, so it is difficult to escape them, especially in the treacherous swamps. It is assumed that Wisps are not aware of the harm they cause to living beings. They are not evil but rather act like sleepwalkers that cause harm without realising what is happening. Unfortunately, this does not make them less dangerous and their 'affection' is lethal indeed. Like all ghosts, they are immune to physical attacks, and it takes a good deal of magic to bring those tragic creatures down. However, this will free their spirits and enable them to leave this realm to finally enter the afterlife.
